It’s all about the people………

On the first Saturday in February Su Ragazzi Volleyball Club had 5 matches to play – 3 at home and 2 away in a triangular fixture.  The girls from Su II travelled to Dundee to play the hosts, and Caledonia West.  Captain Kelsie Braidwood and Coach Jillian Barton steered their side to a win over Dundee and a very tight 2-3 loss to the team from Ayrshire.

Meanwhile, back at Coatbridge High School, the Men II were playing fierce rivals Mets II. The Su Boys established an early lead in the fixture and never looked back!

Setter Scott Mackenzie and power hitter Georgios Michail combined their efforts to make life impossibly difficult for a well organised but inexperienced Mets team.  The home side won the serve V pass battle and then set about the task of being effective at the net…..they were! The 3 sets to zero win was testimony to the success of their efforts.

Next up were the City of Glasgow men playing Mets first team.  The Su boys dominated every aspect of the encounter.  With outside hitter Eddie Gorecki in top form, and middle blocker William Miller demonstrating his excellent understanding of the art of blocking, there was nowhere for the Mets players to go.

They tried valiantly to stem the tide of points that were racking up against them, but simply were out powered, and the match was over with another 3 sets to zero score line for the hosts.

While the volleyball action was continuing Kim and Colin were busy keeping the Mac’s Café ticking over, making cups of tea for the visitors, and extolling the benefits of eating cake with a cuppa!

The third match of the day featured the Fabulous Suettes and the University of Edinburgh girls. It proposed to be a tighter confrontation, to be more competitive, to be more demanding, except the Fabulous Suettes were simply fabulous and swept the girls from Edinburgh aside.

Team Captain Carly Murray, and middle hitter Sam Fowler served like demons, spiked like champions, and blocked like their lives depended on it.  The University girls had no answer to the performance master-class that the Ragazzi girls delivered, and the game was over with yet another 3 sets to zero win.

What a terrific day this was for Su Ragazzi Volleyball Club.  We played 5 fixtures and won 4 of them.  We hosted the opposition and entertained the spectators, and demonstrated yet again that with Su Ragazzi it’s all about the people!
